LGBT+ Counselling
in Reading & London

Exploring sexuality or gender identity can be complex.

For some, the questions are practical. For others, they reach into family, belonging, safety and self-acceptance. You may feel clear about who you are but unsure how to live that openly. Or you may still be working out what feels true.

I offer LGBT+ counselling in Reading and London, as well as online across the UK. My approach is affirmative and respectful. You do not need to educate me about your identity in order to be understood.

Identity and belonging

Being lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary or questioning can bring strength and clarity. It can also bring pressure, isolation or internal conflict.

You may be:

  • Questioning your sexuality

  • Considering coming out

  • Navigating family responses

  • Exploring gender identity

  • Adjusting to changes in relationships

  • Managing internalised shame

  • Living between different communities

Counselling offers space to reflect on these experiences without judgement or expectation.

Minority stress and mental health

Living in a society that does not always feel safe or accepting can take a toll. You may notice anxiety, low mood, anger or a persistent sense of vigilance.

Sometimes the difficulty is not identity itself, but the pressure surrounding it — at work, within family systems, or in wider culture.

Therapy can help you separate your sense of self from the stress imposed by others.

When identity and loss intersect

Identity work is often linked to loss.

Loss of certainty.
Loss of assumed futures.
Loss of family relationships.
Loss of belonging in familiar spaces.

At the same time, there may be gains — authenticity, chosen family, a clearer understanding of yourself.

Counselling can provide space to think about both what has been lost and what is emerging.

Relationships and life transitions

You may also be seeking support for:

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Break-ups

  • Intimacy concerns

  • Career changes

  • Navigating parenthood

  • Broader mental health challenges

Your sexuality or gender identity may be central to the work, or simply one part of a wider picture.
