About Michael Wood
Who I am as a counsellor matters as much as the training and experience I bring. This page offers some sense of the person you may be working with.
My approach integrates humanistic and psychodynamic thinking. In practice, this means we may explore your confidence, sense of self and capacity for growth, while also paying attention to how past experiences and early relationships continue to shape the present.
I have worked with a national bereavement service, supported clients within an LGBT+ charity, and provided therapy in a low-cost community setting. These roles have given me experience across a wide range of difficulties, including grief, identity questions and long-standing relational patterns.
I am a cis gay man, which is an important part of how I understand identity and belonging. It does not mean I work exclusively with LGBT+ clients, but it does mean I am committed to creating an affirming and respectful therapeutic space.
I understand the value of a confidential setting where you can think openly and be taken seriously. That experience continues to inform how I practise.
